Using Your Blood Pressure Monitor

Purpose of a Blood Pressure (BP) Monitor

A blood pressure monitor measures two pressures: systolic, and diastolic. Systolic pressure is higher, occurring when your heart beats and pushes blood through the arteries, and diastolic pressure is measured when your heart is resting and filling with blood.  

Getting Ready to Connect Your BP Monitor
  1. The following steps should be completed after you have downloaded the app on your phone and once you have taken your new device out of the box.
  2. Plug the connector on the air hose into the air hose plug on the left of the BP monitor.

Taking a Reading
  1. Open the app by tapping the app icon on your smartphone screen.
  2. Once opened, tap the “New Reading” button on the bottom left of your smartphone screen.
  3. Tap the “Greater Goods gC-RPM 0040” that is listed on your smartphone.
  4. Once “Ready to Take Reading” screen is presented, put on the BP cuff and follow the instructions listed on your smartphone.
  5. Once done, you will see your reading on your smartphone. You can enter a note (if needed). To leave this screen, press “Open Health Data” or “< Back”

Tips for Putting on the Cuff
  • Make a loose loop with the cuff with velcro and metal bar on the outside by pushing one end of the cuff under the metal bar.
  • Slip the cuff up your arm with bottom of cuff about 1/2” above your elbow.
  • Align the red marker on the cuff with your artery
  • The cuff should be fastened so that a finger can fit under the cuff.
  • The tube should be straight and pointed down the arm.

Tips for Taking a Reading
  • Ensure you are relaxed and comfortably seated.
  • Sit in a chair with your legs uncrossed and feet flat on the floor.
  • Sit with your back and arm being supported.
